Background:

Daughter of an ex-assassin, Artemis was born with a superhuman ability to command darkness. She was brought up to never wear her heart on her sleeve, and as a result she appeared cold and distant to her peers to the point where she has trouble holding an average conversation in her present age without it drying up. Her loneliness has given way to depression which in turn has led to a borderline misanthropic outlook. One of her greatest fears is the feeling of being trapped - chained down to a one-track life devoid of greater purpose. As a teenager, she combated this fear by keeping vigil on the streets as a masked heroine and foiling crime with the use of her powers and skills that she inherited from her father. During college, she settled down into a comfortable apartment with her younger sister, and now currently works as an inspector for one of the Hastel border checkpoint buildings. Throughout her years, Artemis spent much of her free time learning computer science and programming; developing a knack for writing code and becoming familiar with cybersecurity protocol. She currently shares her knowledge on an anonymous dark web chat, regularly speaking with other members to discuss their latest developments. Despite having never seen their faces, the other members of the online chat have proven to be Artemis's closest friends. The desire to escape from the mundane soon overtakes her, and she eventually decides to take up the mantle as a vigilante once again.

Personality:

Her outward aloof demeanor is actually an amalgamation of social anxiety and her tactful upbringing. She is often caught up in fantasies of her own making - either wishing she were somewhere else, or reminiscing nostalgically of a time when she was still young with a full heart. Though she struggles not to express contempt for others, she cares deeply for those who manage to become close to her. One of the things Artemis hates is showing what she feels is weakness or vulnerabilities towards others, which results in her being more closed off to the world. Nevertheless, she holds herself to a certain level of intelligence and is proud of the abilities in which she excels in. Artemis possesses a rather sarcastic sense of humor and a wry wit, often showing at the expense of others. Her sister Cornelia best describes Artemis as an "acquired taste."

A young man who has lived a fairly average life thus far. Jaska never went to college and instead jumped from job to job while making a small circle of friends. Never really an ambitious man, Jaska found himself in a comfortable cycle of making a typical paycheck and hanging out with his circle on the weekends. Everything he has, he's worked for, and he's considered among his friends as the "voice of reason." Coming from a quiet suburb, Jaska moved to the city for a change in scenery and in hopes that someday something interesting would happen. For a while, he worked as a convenience store clerk where he would eventually have his fateful encounter with Chiaro Autrey. After deciding to move on from the store, Jaska soon became employed by Argo Logistics as a warehouse technician. He hasn't given much thought as to what the future may hold for him.

Cornelia (often referred to as Corey for short) is Artemis and Chiaro's younger sister. From childhood, Cornelia and her younger twin sister Caroline were near-inseparable, but started to grow apart in their teenage years. Corey was always the more reclusive, introverted twin; Carol was the one that craved individuality and went out of her way to make new friends and strive for popularity. This left Cornelia feeling abandoned by the one person that was supposed to be closest to her, and she eventually developed mental instabilities down the line. While Caroline's interests were geared towards trends, fashion, and friends, Cornelia had a penchant for horror films and the occult. She was taken to many therapists when her behavior began to show unsettling tendencies, but she dislikes taking the medication prescribed for her. Like Artemis, Cornelia inherited her supernatural powers from their father, while Caroline was born without any such phenomena from either parent. Cornelia currently shares an apartment with Artemis, who keeps her state of mind in check.

Katya is a young woman who people claim to have "just appeared out of nowhere" into their lives at some point or another. Her larger than life charm took the city of Winddrift by storm and caught many off guard - before long she was surrounded by friends, and by some miraculous feat managed to become Artemis's sole friend during their college days. Whether organizing parties or attending them, there isn't a venue in Winddrift too exclusive for her, to the point where she is considered to be a pseudo-celebrity. Her life thus far has been streamlined and paved with comfort and contentment, though it doesn't appear that she will be slowing down anytime soon.

Stony had always been a drifter, traveling from place to place and picking up whatever short-term jobs he found along the way. He was eventually drawn in by the allure of Winddrift's charms and ended up settling in an apartment near the Vale-Hastel border. After attending his first reptile expo in the city, Stony began his collection of exotic pets and jump-started a number of side businesses through the connections he made there. Stony met Andy one day at a house party, and Andy who had a good feeling about Stony, insisted on becoming his friend. With his car requiring repeated visits to the local mechanic, Stony eventually met Chiaro who worked there. By extension, Stony would eventually meet Jaska as well. As part of his leasing contract, Stony had to get a job that gave him an actual paycheck. He was hired by Hellcat's Pizza where he now works under a tough but fair manager, but enjoys the work nonetheless.

Andy is an unprincipled youth who chased a life of instant gratification and petty vices (and still does). He lives the life of vagrant, crashing at the homes of whoever will take him while borrowing money with little intention of ever paying it back. He has a notorious habit of showing up uninvited among other things, and would soon meet Stony Varanus after crashing a house party. Since Stony was one of the few people that could tolerate him for extended periods of time, Andy insisted they be friends and wound up meeting Jaska and Chiaro through him. Seeing the group as a clean slate to for once make a good impression, Andy decided to insert himself into their social circle.
