Re: Dressed For Death - Character Profiles
Vivian Raine
Female, Age 23 (May 1)
Backstory:
Vivian spent much of her early life living in poverty, and much of her recent life in near-poverty. Her family had always struggled to survive in society, and from more than just an economic standpoint. With a sickly mother and a deadbeat father, the young Vivi attached herself to her older brother, Alexander, and sister, Mary, instead. When their father abandoned them and their mother died, her brother threw himself into the world for his two little sisters, juggling as many jobs as he could while studying for university. Vivi idealized him.
After Zander left for university on the other side of the world, and Mary ended married at eighteen, Vivian decided she wanted to live on her own. More than anything, she wanted to be self-sufficient, so her brother and sister wouldn't have to worry about her. Her most expensive possession, a state-of-the-art camera, came in the mail as a gift from her brother, letting her finally live out her childhood imaginations.
Personality:
Outwardly, Vivian is an outgoing, outdoorsy, and overall very friendly type of person, and perhaps inwardly she isn't much different. Despite how she tries to remain confident and self-assured, the truth is more complex. She's afraid of putting herself out there, which is part of the reason why she's single, but she's also terrified of ending up like her mother, or worse - becoming her father. She takes some solace in knowing her friends are loyal and kind, and she keeps all the pictures she took with them close to her heart.
Feelings Spec:
- Spoiler:
- 3/3/1994
Brian: "I used to feel really bad for Brian when we were in school. I wish I had reached out to him like Liam did, but I doubt I would have helped much. I hope he doesn't hold that against me, but I'm almost sure he wouldn't. He's one of the nicest guys I know. But I really do hope he can forgive Shay someday. They're missing out on so much together, I honestly think they could end up being inseparable.
I like it when he takes off his glasses."
Liam: "Liam is best described as the tall, dark, and handsome gentleman in our little group. I was really intimidated by him at first, but he's actually the sweetest guy I've ever met, and I know I can always count on him. He has an unfortunate obsession with the 80's, and Shay keeps trying to dig him out of it, but I don't think it's that bad. It's actually kind of adorable. He likes his movies like I like my photography.
I'm not blushing, am I? Oh gosh.
Shannon: "Shay is like...one of my best friends now? It feels really weird to say that, still. I mean, she was one of the popular girls who always felt like she was above everyone else. I doubt she ever noticed me, since there was a period of time I just wouldn't talk because I hated how my braces looked. But she's changed for the better, though I can tell she still feels horrible about her past. I want to do something for her and Brian, but I just don't know what.
I've always thought of her as a goddess. Now that she isn't a bitch? Well...even better. Don't tell her I said that."
Noah: "Um...yeah I just don't really know what to think of Noah. Shay spotted him a while back and he just kind of got assimilated into the group? He's really quiet and reserved, and I'm pretty sure he's only sticking around because he likes our dynamic. His clothes always seems to 'fit' him really well, either that or he's just the right kind of handsome. His stories are really, really good.
I love watching him think. He always seems like he's deep in it, like no one can dig him out no matter how big their shovel is."
Elizabeth: "Liz is my best friend in the whole world. But it's really hard to be her friend sometimes. Half the time she doesn't even realize what she's saying, but she's extraordinarily racist. I don't think it's hate that drives her though. She was a shut-in most of her life, surrounded by like-minded and similar-looking people. Seeing anything else is a huge culture shock for her, and it just makes her uncomfortable. I really want to fix it, I just don't know how.
I think...I think she's in love with me. And that makes me feel really bad for her."

Re: Dressed For Death - Character Profiles
Elizabeth Morgan
Female, Age 24 (December 31)
Background:
Elizabeth grew up in a small family, the only child living in a big city, close to the airport. Her father was a pilot, and she always loved to climb into the cockpit with him and watch the skies fly past. She took a note from her father, and went to school so she could fly second to him again - only get paid for it, too. She lived an isolated childhood, for the most part, though it was no fault of her parents. She was simply picky about who she made friends with. She met Vivi at fourteen, and 'decided' to be her best friend all throughout high school and, so far, she still is. Even though Vivi didn't join her in college, Liz still visits her every chance she gets with an almost obsessive level of dedication.
Personality:
The idea of Liz being 'picky' isn't without a great deal of merit. Her attitude can become extreme when she encounters someone who is very different from her, and the best option for all parties is to never bring it up, if possible. Vivian suspects she may be closeted, though any mention of the idea is quickly shut down by Liz with a carefree wave of her hand and a laugh. Liz is extroverted and peppy, and constantly attempts to find Vivi a new boyfriend at least twice a month, or more if possible. They usually don't work out, but Liz never gives up. She has a reputation to uphold, after all.
Feelings Spec:
- Spoiler:
- 3/3/94
Vivian: "Vivi is my most precious friend. I met her some ten years ago and decided this was the girl I wanted to know everything about. My parents couldn't stop me from inserting Vivi into my life, and I'm glad they stopped trying to. She's the kindest, most beautiful girl I've ever seen in my life, and even though our whole group has problems and major flaws, she accepts us. I think I'd be okay with having her as my only friend for the rest of my life.
I mean, have you seen her tits? Two handfulls of fucking perfection."
Brian: "I didn't really know him. I didn't go to high school with everyone else, I was tutored at home most of my life and sheltered. But it's weird hearing stories of his life back then. Nothing about him makes him seem like a target for bullies. Those glasses actually make him look super smart. He was actually more intimidating than Liam was for me, believe it or not.
I'm reasonably sure he has a crush on Vivi."
Liam: "Tall, dark, and handsome? Yeah, okay Vivi. I know you have a crush on him, but come on. You're coming on way too strong with him and you're gonna wind up pushing him away instead. Guys like him, you need to take it a little slower. Let him feel you out, put the thought in his head and let it simmer there for a few months. Baby steps. Then you're cooking for him every other day, mending his clothes, and napping on his shoulder.
You can wrap him around your little finger before the year is out. Promise."
Shannon: "I dunno about her being a goddess, Vivi. She's starting to get some wrinkles on her cheeks, though I'll admit she's pretty. And sincere, despite her early setbacks with Brian and the rest of the crew. But like Noah, I didn't really know everyone from high school or before, only Vivi. But Vivi likes her plenty, and if Vivi likes her, well, so can I.
I give her tits a 6/10."
Noah:
"He knows."

Re: Dressed For Death - Character Profiles
Male, Age 23 (Jan 18)
Backstory:
Liam was what many would call a teen heartthrob back in his high school years. Rather than bother himself with the boring world of reality, he preferred to spend a lot of his time engrossed in the fantastical stories that could only be told through the magic of cinema and television. He turned down many invitations to high school parties, opting to watch VHS movies rented from Blockbuster with those he considered his actual friends. At one point he did attend a party, only to end up disappointed that it wasn't anything like what he saw in theaters. At some point, Liam bought his own camcorder and made a collection of his own movies.
After high school, Liam attended college and promptly dropped out. He currently works as a radio station assistant and hopes to someday eventually make it into the television and film industry.
Personality:
Liam is a man that overly-romanticizes the 1980's due to being impacted by so many films during that decade. Despite his intimidating appearance, he's actually quite easy to get along with - so long as one doesn't insult his favorite movies. He has a rather muddled idea of how things in life should be when it comes to certain concepts as a result of him being out of touch with how the world actually operates. In addition, he is also adventurous and will rarely shy away from excursions around Winddrift.
- Feelings - 3/3/1994:
Vivian:
"I knew her back in high school, but we didn't start talking until Brian brought me to the Golden Goblet. I guess she's sort of become the leader of our pack? I don't really mind, she's probably the coolest chick friend I've made in a long time. I just never thought a girl like her would end up running a bar. She's into photography, so that's pretty cool too. Every time I visit the bar, I feel like I'm in sort of a sitcom.
I wonder what kind of movies she likes?"
Brian:
"Poor dude could never catch a break back in the day, and all because he wore glasses. We seemed to get along fine, though. He's the first guy who actually wanted to hang out with me just to watch my VHS films. He kept in touch with me after high school and was there for me when I decided that college just wasn't for me. I never pegged him as a regular drinker, though, but he really seems to like meeting up at the Golden Goblet for some reason.
This wouldn't have something to do with Vivian, would it?"
Shannon:
"I remember her from high school, too. I wasn't quite ready to start being all buddy-buddy with her, but Brian said she was alright. Something must have happened to her between high school and now, because she seems like a completely different person. She doesn't even talk about her old friends, or even her old boyfriend, Mason. Honestly, Shannon's a real looker, and if it weren't for that glaring image of her past self, I might have made a move.
I feel like she's still got a lot of issues underneath."
Noah:
"The guy likes books, I like movies. In our group, he seems like my polar opposite. Dude doesn't drink a drop of liquor and yet ended up in a bar one day. Said he was 'people watching.' Normally, you'd find such a thing kinda creepy, but since he's a bestselling writer, he earns the right to be called 'eccentric.' When he isn't writing in that little notebook of his, I'll sometimes catch him staring off into space.
I want to talk to him more, but I'm not really sure how."
Elizabeth:
"Goodness fucking gracious. Where do I even begin with Liz? She's like... the kind of person you'd only want to take in doses. Hard to believe she's friends with someone like Vivian. I've never actually had any one-on-one time with her, and I'm pretty sure I don't want to. Aside from that, I see her trying to push a bunch of random guys towards Vivian, like she's in a rush to get her hitched.
The girl really needs to slow down."

Re: Dressed For Death - Character Profiles
Male, Age 22 (Oct 4)
Backstory:
Brian had always been a simple person of no spectacular talent. While many of his peers were gifted with good looks or athleticism, poor Brian instead scored astigmatism from the genetic lottery. During his time at Stag's Leap High School, he was subject to many pranks by his classmates and endured persistent bullying attempts. After four long years of character-shaping hardships, he was accepted into Monarch University at Winddrift. From that point on, life became a little easier for Brian as many of those that picked on him were weeded out and did not end up in higher education.
After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Brian became a pharmacy technician while still living under his parents' roof. He currently frequents the Golden Goblet bar - though more for the company of his friends as opposed to the drinks.
Personality:
Brian isn't the same quietly seething wallflower he was in high school. He is for the most part an honest person, and addresses people appropriate to how he feels about them. He is often mistaken for being smarter than he actually is due to his bookish appearance, and often ends up embarrassing himself when asked to perform technical tasks beyond his realm of expertise. Since he is used to having insults hurled his way, Brian will tolerate and shrug off most put-downs directed at him. Unsurprisingly, he's usually the one that ends up doing the most work in any given group project.
- Feelings - 3/3/1994:
- Vivian:"I've known her since high school, but I never really got a good chance to talk with her back then. She was nice from what I remember from the few conversations we did have. It was only by chance that I happened to stop by the Golden Goblet where I met her again, and we caught up.This time I hope I can make a better impression."Liam:"I used to think he was a dumb greaser, but he ended up being the best friend I ever had. He... he really stuck up for me back in high school. After that, the guys that picked on me backed off. He doesn't realize it but he saved me that day. If it weren't for him, I would have come close to going through with......Never mind. He's a good guy and I hope he goes far in life. Let's just leave it at that."Shannon:"I really don't know about her. She used to be part of the group of kids that gave me hell back in high school. For her part, it was probably the peer pressure that made her join the 'Bully Brian' bandwagon. She apologized when we met again for the first time in years, and even buys me drinks every now and then but... sometimes she still shows some of her old habits. I want to believe she's changed for the better, I really do.It's just that a part of me isn't ready to forgive her yet."Noah:"He's even quieter and more distant than I am. One day we were all just hanging out at the bar and he just kind of... showed up. It's really hard to explain. Noah's a really cool guy to talk to, but I don't know a lot about him other than the fact that he writes books. Every time we're all together, I catch him scrawling something in that notebook of his.Just what goes on in that guy's mind, anyway?"Elizabeth:"That's Vivi's best friend. She has a really... larger than life kind of personality. I mean, she's really out there. I've never seen Vivi talk to anyone more than her, and the two have some really hilarious back-and-forths. I can't help but feel like she's a bit overbearing sometimes, and I think Vivian gets a little uncomfortable around her at times.I really don't get girls, man."
Re: Dressed For Death - Character Profiles
Female, Age 22 (Aug 7)
Backstory:
Shannon had everything she always wanted growing up: looks, money, popularity. Her cushy lifestyle molded her into a shallow, materialistic young girl in high school, living in a bubble with no concern for the less attractive. When it came to climbing the ultimately insignificant social ladder of her teenage years, she had hit the ground running. Chasing a life of cheap thrills and instant gratification, Shannon had her first beer at the age of fourteen and lost her virginity in the subsequent year. She believed life after high school could only get better.
It wasn't until college that Shannon was knocked off her pedestal. Her parents had afforded her enrollment into the prestigious Winddrift Everglades University. She was lumped in with peers richer and more educated than she was - peers who would not put up with her juvenile demeanor. It took the inability to buy her friends this time around to see that she was just a big fish in a small pond for the entirety of her life. From then on, she sought out to reform herself into a better person.
Personality:
After college, Shannon began to re-evaluate herself and saw exactly where she stood in the world. Though she retains some of the childish nature she had before (mostly in the forms of gossip and teasing), she means well and holds the best interests of her friends at heart. She has severed ties with most of her old friends and seeks a fresh start with those around her now. At times she still has trouble reconciling herself with who she was in the past, and a darker side of her shows that she can be mentally unstable.
- Feelings - 3/3/1994:
- Vivian:
"I honestly forgot Vivi existed until I went to the Golden Goblet one night to... well, forget. She's really nice, and didn't let who I was back then stop us from becoming friends. Vivi's always there for me when I need a good drink, and I assure her I'm always there for her if she needs a place to crash, since she isn't doing too well for herself. She may be poor, but she can be a little prideful - she really needs to learn to take a helping hand sometimes. When I think about who I could have been, it makes me a little sad.
...I wish I could have met her first before all the others. Maybe then things would have been different."
Brian:
"Every time I see Brian, my heart sinks a little. I feel so bad for how I treated him... I mean... it wasn't all my fault, right? You do such crazy shit to fit in and I... I was just trying to belong. It still doesn't excuse how I was, though. He doesn't seem to hate me too much nowadays, but I feel like I can never make things up to him. I admit, sometimes I still tease him from time to time. I just want him to like, yell at me or something.
It looks like he just wants to move on, and I guess... so do I."
Liam:
"Liam's the kind of guy that had the looks and the style to fit in with my group back in high school, but decided he wanted nothing to do with us. I don't blame him. As soon as we walked out those doors for the last time, we left behind all the things we thought made us special. I will say this: he's kind of weird, despite it all. He's living in the past, where the rest of us just want to get away from it.
The 80's ended a long time ago, dude."
Noah:
"I was engrossed in a conversation with Vivi one night at the bar when I catch this guy writing down every word I said. Naturally, I was freaked out and snapped at him. As it turned out, he was some hotshot writer trying to get ideas for his next book. I was kind of flattered by the idea of potentially being the part of something big, so I gave him a chance. He's nice and dresses quite sharply, so I suppose he can't be all bad.
He definitely needs to start speaking up more. It bothers me that he's always just in the background of our conversations."
Elizabeth:
"I'm not too sure about Liz. She's really friendly with Vivi, but if you ask me, I think she's a little too friendly. Other than that, I don't really mind her. It's nice to have genuine female friends, considering the fake ones back in high school that were just trying to climb the social ladder. Liz says she's wants to be a pilot, which I think is real neat. I bet she gets to travel for free.
I wonder if she could get me some first class tickets sometime..."
Re: Dressed For Death - Character Profiles
Male, Age 25 (Apr 9)
Background:
Noah is a troubled writer who moved to Winddrift City in hopes of finding inspiration for his new book. As an author whose previous title came to be a bestseller, he is pressured to follow up with a novel exceeding the success of the last. He met Shannon Blanchett one day when she had caught him transcribing every conversation she was having into his notebook. He remains to be an enigma, as not much is known about his personal life or his life before coming to the city. However, there are times when one can catch a glimpse of a pained look in his eyes, which hold a story he refuses to divulge.
Personality:
Noah is quiet and introverted, seldom initiating conversation without good reason. His eccentric approach to gathering ideas notwithstanding, he is generally tasteful and kind. Always curious and fascinated by human nature, one of his main hobbies is people-watching and observing the various nuances that each individual possesses. He doesn't drink alcohol or indulge in similar vices, only visiting the Golden Goblet for what he considers more productive reasons. Many say he is mysterious, but he claims it's because there isn't much to share about himself.
- Feelings - 3/3/1994:
- Vivian:
"She's the one the rest of us seem to gravitate towards. I don't think this is mere coincidence... there must be somethings extraordinary about her. From what I gather, she's the main purveyor of the Golden Goblet, and the rest of the group knew her back in high school. Her charisma has assembled her an eclectic group of friends - myself included. Financially, it doesn't look like she's doing all too well.
I look forward to seeing what the future holds in store for her."
Brian:
"Brian has an affinity towards video games, and works at pharmacy. He's almost always seen in the company of Liam, but I'm picking up on a hidden animosity towards Shannon. I'm not here to pry - just to observe. He'll sometimes reach out to me in an attempt to converse for the sake of conversing.
I see a little bit of myself in him."
Liam:
"A rather tall man. Less intimidating than his appearance might suggest. He enjoys cinema and television and has asked me to record shows for him when he learned I had a VCR. Many of the others in the group see him as the 'big brother' type. He seems to get restless when in the same setting for too long.
There's plenty of potential in him, that's for sure."
Shannon:
"A once shallow, popular girl turned humble? Now this is interesting. She wasn't too fond of me taking notes on her the first time, but has come to tolerate my record-keeping habits. For someone so privileged, she's very generous - though it would be apt to assume that she's trying to compensate for something.
My psychological profile on her suggests that she may be prone to mental breakdowns."
Elizabeth:
"I eventually stopped taking notes on Elizabeth. Trying to fully understand her is a task too great for my undertaking. From what I can figure out, she enjoys Vivian's company; possibly to the point of a homosexual nature. Despite the fact that she appears to be cheery and outgoing, she seems to be ignorant to the fact that she may be harboring certain prejudices against a select group of people or peoples.
I don't think she likes me too well."
Re: Dressed For Death - Character Profiles
Preston Callaway
Male, Age 22 (Jul 26)
Background:
Preston is one of Vivian's neighbors, and a freelance photographer having done contracts for several catalogues and tabloid newspapers. He spends a lot of time keeping track of major events in the city, hoping to get the next big scoop. His persistence has earned him a respectable network of lesser notable figures; few of which actually owe him favors. As an only child in his family growing up in an upper middle class neighborhood, Preston has anything but a hard life.
Personality:
Quite simply, Preston can be described as a cheery go-getter. Due to his concept of boundaries (or lack thereof), Preston will always jump into a conversation with anyone that mentions having a similar interest as him, often with mixed results. He isn't brought down easily as he takes most of life in stride, though it isn't certain if that is attributed to a sense of obliviousness or abundant optimism.
